The Finnish-Russian School of Eastern Finland is a language-focused school with special emphasis on the Russian language and culture as well as entrepreneurship education. The school provides pre-primary, basic, and upper secondary education.

Preschool

In pre-primary education at The School of Eastern Finland children gain the skills they need to begin Finnish comprehensive school. They are introduced to the Finnish and Russian languages and cultures in an age-appropriate way – through play and hands-on activities. Early language learning helps children develop strong language skills and broadens their thinking.

Comprehensive school

Basic education at The School of Eastern Finland follows the Finnish national core curriculum but includes more language studies. Russian is studied both as a foreign language and as a mother tongue – in a truly bilingual environment. Pupils’ vocabulary expands as some subjects are taught in Russian. However, the main language of instruction is Finnish.

Upper secondary school

The special focus of The School of Eastern Finland Upper Secondary School is to provide students with strong Russian language skills and understanding of Russian culture. Students who focus on Russian language, culture, and entrepreneurship may complete fewer of certain compulsory national courses. The Finnish matriculation examination is completed at Itä-Suomen koulu.
